Zechozen1, not to bash you but Led Zeppelin had a greater influence on heavy metal than just Kashmir and Black Dog and to say that those songs were the only hard rock or heavy metal geared songs is blasphemy. You must also take into account Whole Lotta Love, Dazed And Confused, Rock n' Roll, No Quarter just to name a few. This is not to say that they are heavy metal songs like those we hear today because todays heavy metal is way different (frankly I dislike it very much.)

Secondly you point out songs mostly from the albums Led Zeppelin IV and Houses of the Holy in which the band was making a transition from heavy metal & blues that is personified by heavy riffs and fast drums to a more folk type music with more earthy tones and acoustic guitars with underlying tones of heavy metal and blues. Now Im not disagreeing that Led Zeppelin is only a heavy metal band but to say that they had a small role in the beginnings of heavy metal is absolutely wrong.
